Apple (AAPL) has patented a stylus called ‘iPen.’

The smart pen is quite versatile, functioning on a number of surfaces including paper, whiteboards, iPad touchscreens and more. Writers, graphic artists and teachers may benefit greatly from Apple’s new stylus.
The gadget activates when it detects it’s been picked up, pressed to paper or or taken out of a slot. The iPen transmits data in real time or at timed intervals.
“For example, if the stylus were being used on a whiteboard, perhaps in a large classroom setting, the operator may require realtime reproduction for displaying output on a larger digital display,” reports AppleInsider
.
The patent for the smart pen was first issued in January 2010 but it took almost five years for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to grant it. Aleksandr Pance invented the iPen.
Earlier this month, Apple was granted a patent for a system that adjusts an iPhone’s angle when falling.
AAPL stock is down 0.5% Tuesday morning.
