Amazon Movies Are Coming to the Big Screen

Amazon (AMZN) has announced that it will be making original movies that will be shown in theaters.

amazon-movies-amznAmazon original movies will be released in theaters before they get a release on the streaming service. However, the streaming service will have access to the movies within four to eight weeks after they’ve been shown. This is much quicker than the typical 39 to 52 weeks it takes movies to make it to streaming services.

Amazon’s original movies division will be lead by Ted Hope, who co-founded Good Machine. Good Machine is the production company responsible for Eat Drink Man Woman and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

“Not only will we bring Prime Instant Video customers exciting, unique, and exclusive films soon after a movie’s theatrical run, but we hope this program will also benefit filmmakers, who too often struggle to mount fresh and daring stories that deserve an audience,” Roy Price, Vice President of Amazon Studios, said in a statement.
