More broadly, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 1.3%, the Nasdaq pushed 1.2% higher and the S&P 500 rose 1.3%.

- Precision Drilling Corp (PDS): PDS stock is up 9.6% today.
- Cimarex Energy Co (XEC): XEC stock is up 7.9% today.
- Carrizo Oil & Gas (CRZO): CRZO stock is up 7.9% today.
- Calumet Specialty Products (CLMT): CLMT stock is up 7.8% today.
- Patterson-Uti Energy (PTEN): PTEN stock is up 7.4% today.
- Laredo Petroleum Holdings Inc (LPI): LPI stock is up 6.7% today.
- Matador Resources Company (MTDR): MTDR stock is up 6.9% today.
- Energen Corp (EGN): EGN stock is up 6.6% today.
- Nabors Industries (NBR): NBR stock is up 6.5% today.
- Atwood Oceanics (ATW): ATW stock is up 6.4% today.
Only one stock in the energy sectors showed losses:
- Peabody Energy Corp (BTU): BTU stock is down 0.2% today.
