New Dietary Guidelines Report: Cholesterol Is No Longer the Bad Guy

Cholesterol is set to make a return in the new Dietary Guidelines report for 2015.

cholesterolCholesterol was labeled as nutrient that people should avoid in the 2010 Dietary Guidelines. However, it appears that this will change in 2015 with the new guidelines. A look at these new guidelines includes a line that states “Cholesterol is not considered a nutrient of concern for overconsumption,” reports CNN.

The 2010 Dietary Guidelines suggested that consumers limit themselves to 300 mg of cholesterol a day. However, the new report claims that eating the nutrient doesn’t affect the amount of it in our blood enough to matter, CNN notes.

The United States government first started publishing a Dietary Guidelines report in 1980. The report is updated every five years and is a collaboration between the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
