NBC’s Brian Williams has been suspended without pay for six months and is the subject of an investigation.
NBC suspended Brian Williams for exaggerating his reporting for his Iraq War coverage in 2003. His report claimed that he was in a helicopter that was taken down by an RPG. However, several soldiers that were part of the platoon that protected him claimed this was false, reports CNN Money.
It’s unknown if Brian Williams will return to NBC after his suspension. It’s possible that the network may choose to cut him off permanently. An investigation into the news anchor’s past reports is being conducted, CNN Money notes.
“Brian misrepresented events which occurred while he was covering the Iraq War in 2003,” Deborah Turness, President of NBC News, told The Detroit News
. “It then became clear that on other occasions Brian had done the same while telling that story in other venues. This was wrong and completely inappropriate for someone in Brian’s position.”
