Women on 20s: Will Harriet Tubman Replace Andrew Jackson on $20 Bill?

Harriet Tubman has been selected by Women on 20s as their choice for the face of the $20 bill.

harriet-tubman-women-on-20sWomen on 20s held an online poll asking who users thought should replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill. The poll saw more than 600,000 people vote. Harriet Tubman won the poll with a little more than 118,000 votes.

Runners up in the poll created by Women on 20s include: Eleanor Eoosevelt with 111,227 votes, Rosa Parks with 64,173 votes and Wilma Mankiller with 58,703 votes. The organization is using the hashtag “#DearMrPresident” to ask President Barack Obama to put Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill.

Harriet Tubman was an escaped salve turned abolitionists that helped set many slaves free via the Underground Railroad. She was born in the early 1820s and died in 1913 with military honors. She helped Union soldiers during the Civil War and was one of the first African American women to be a member of the military.
