More broadly, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was unchanged, the Nasdaq was steady and the S&P 500 remained flat.

- Yamana Gold (AUY): AUY stock is up 1.5% today.
- Kinross Gold Corp (KGC): KGC stock is up 1.6% today.
- Georgia Gulf Corp (AXLL): AXLL stock is up 1.5% today.
- Owens-Illinois (OI): OI stock is up 0.3% today.
- Cf Industries Holdings (CF): CF stock is up 0.6% today.
- Barrick Gold Corp (ABX): ABX stock is up 1.4% today.
- Agnico-Eagle Mines Limited (AEM): AEM stock is up 1.1% today.
- Simpson Manufacturing Company (SSD): SSD stock is up 0.4% today.
- New Gold Inc (NGD): NGD stock is up 0.6% today.
Some of the biggest losers among basic materials stocks include:
- Bhp Billiton Limited (BHP): BHP stock is down 5.4% today.
- Bhp Billiton Plc (BBL): BBL stock is down 5.2% today.
- Aluminum Corporation of China Ltd (ACH): ACH stock is down 3.9% today.
- Arcelormittal (MT): MT stock is down 3.2% today.
- National Steel Corp (SID): SID stock is down 3.1% today.
- Sinopec Shangai Petrochemical Company Ltd (SHI): SHI stock is down 1.7% today.
- Vale S.A. (VALE): VALE stock is down 2.1% today.
- Quaker Chemical Corp (KWR): KWR stock is down 1.1% today.
- Southern Peru Copper Corp (SCCO): SCCO stock is down 0.9% today.
- Hudbay Minerals Inc (HBM): HBM stock is down 0.4% today.
