Basic materials stocks advanced broadly on Wall Street so far on Wednesday, with the sector seeing an overall increase of 0.9%.

More broadly, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.9%, the Nasdaq was up 0.9% and the S&P 500 pushed 0.9% higher.

Some of the biggest gainers among basic materials stocks include:

• Vale S.A. (VALE): VALE stock is up 6.1% today.

• Teck Resources Ltd (TCK): TCK stock is up 3.8% today.

• Mrc Global Inc (MRC): MRC stock is up 5.5% today.

• Rio Tinto Plc (RIO): RIO stock is up 4.0% today.

• Bhp Billiton Plc (BBL): BBL stock is up 3.9% today.

• Hudbay Minerals Inc (HBM): HBM stock is up 4.5% today.

• Gerdau S.A. (GGB): GGB stock is up 2.5% today.

• Bhp Billiton Limited (BHP): BHP stock is up 3.7% today.

• Freeport-Mcmoran Inc. (FCX): FCX stock is up 3.1% today.

• Sasol Ltd (SSL): SSL stock is up 3.5% today.

Some of the biggest losers among basic materials stocks include:

• Newmont Mining Corp (NEM): NEM stock is down 2.0%, marking the fourth consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Meadwestvaco Corp (MWV): MWV stock is down 0.1% today.

• Silgan Holdings (SLGN): SLGN stock is down 0.4%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Actuant Corp (ATU): ATU stock is down 0.3% today.

• Greif Bros. Corp (GEF.B): GEF.B stock is down 0.1% today.
