More broadly, the Dow Jones Industrial Average pushed 0.7% higher, the Nasdaq increased 0.4% and the S&P 500 climbed 0.7%.

- Alcoa Inc (AA): AA stock is up 2.9% today.
- Gerdau S.A. (GGB): GGB stock is up 2.3% today.
- Carpenter Technology Corp (CRS): CRS stock is up 2.8% today.
- Commercial Metals Company (CMC): CMC stock is up 2.6% today.
- Hudbay Minerals Inc (HBM): HBM stock is up 2.3% today.
- Southern Peru Copper Corp (SCCO): SCCO stock is up 2.4% today.
- Actuant Corp (ATU): ATU stock is up 2.4% today.
- Bhp Billiton Limited (BHP): BHP stock is up 2.4% today.
- Celanese Corp (CE): CE stock is up 2.3% today.
- Polyone Corp (POL): POL stock is up 2.3% today on 3 times normal volume.
Some of the biggest losers among basic materials stocks include:
- Huntsman Corp (HUN): HUN stock is down 2.4% today on 3 times normal volume.
- Kapstone Paper and Packaging Corp (KS): KS stock is down 1.0% today.
- E.I. Du Pont De Nemours and Company (DD): DD stock is down 0.8%, marking the seventh consecutive day the stock has decreased.
- Fibria Celulose S.A. (FBR): FBR stock is down 0.7% today.
- Om Group (OMG): OMG stock is down 0.5% today.
- FMC Corp (FMC): FMC stock is down 0.4% today.
- Simpson Manufacturing Company (SSD): SSD stock is down 0.4% today.
- Sociedad Quimica Y Minera S.A. (SQM): SQM stock is down 0.2% today.
- Schweitzer-Mauduit International (SWM): SWM stock is down 0.1% today.
