More broadly, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 1.9%, the Nasdaq increased 2.8% and the S&P 500 pushed 1.9% higher.

Some of the biggest gainers among healthcare stocks include:

• Achillion Pharmaceuticals (ACHN): ACHN stock is up 6.8% today.

• Newlink Genetics Corp (NLNK): NLNK stock is up 6.8% today.

• Nektar Therapeutics (NKTR): NKTR stock is up 6.0% today.

• Acadia Pharmaceuticals Inc (ACAD): ACAD stock is up 6.0% today.

• Ziopharm Oncology Inc (ZIOP): ZIOP stock is up 6.0% today.

• Clovis Oncology Inc (CLVS): CLVS stock is up 5.5% today.

• Neurocrine Biosciences (NBIX): NBIX stock is up 5.5% today.

• Lifepoint Hospitals (LPNT): LPNT stock is up 4.8% today.

• Sarepta Therapeutics Inc (SRPT): SRPT stock is up 4.8% today.

Only one stock in the healthcare sectors showed losses:

• Wuxi Pharmatech [Cayman] Inc (WX): WX stock is down 0.5% today.
