Alber Elbaz is being forced out of Paris fashion house Lanvin after spending fourteen years with the company.
Lanvin said it was “the decision of the company’s majority shareholder” to oust Elbaz. Here are five things to know about the Paris fashion designer:
- He has had successful collaborations–in 2008 he created a denim collection with Acne, and he made tulle dresses and bejeweled necklaces with H&M in 2010.
- In his 14 years with Lanvin, Elbaz won the CFDA International Designer Award, a French Legion of Honor and was an honoree at the Fashion Group International’s Night of Stars.
- His models included regular people of all shapes and sizes rather than your traditional skinny supermodel.
- Elbaz has had extravagant exhibitions with Lanvin including Paris’s Palais Galliera earlier this year and “Alber Elbaz/Lanvin: Manifeste,” a photography exhibition at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie (MEP) in Paris.
- He had a big 10th anniversary with Lanvin in 2012 where he sang a song followed by a rain of gold glitter. There was a tiered cake too!
Elbaz will always be known as the legend that helped Lanvin make its comeback.
