Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland has died at age 48.

The 90s star had a career that spanned three decades. He died in his sleep.

Here are five things to know about Weiland:

  • He was born and raised in San Jose, California but raised in Ohio. He moved back to Huntington Beach as a teenager.
  • Weiland was the singer of Stone Temple Pilots from 1986 through 2013, releasing four platinum albums including ‘Core’ in 1992, which went eight-times platinum.
  • In 2002, he formed supergroup Velvet Revolver with former Guns N’ Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum, alongside Dave Kushner formerly of punk band Wasted Youth.
  • He had a solo career that spanned two albums, followed by the creation of another supergroup in 2015 called Art of Anarchy, including twin brothers Jon and Vince Votta on guitar and drums, current Disturbed bassist John Moyer, and Guns N’ Roses’ Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal.
  • Weiland struggled with drug use throughout his career, namely cocaine and crack cocaine.
