The American Kennel Club (AKC) has recognized two new dog breeds.

You can now talk about the sloughis and American hairless terriers, an ancient North African hound and a hairless terrier respectively.

There are now 189 breeds recognized by the AKC. The newcomers can now compete in most of the club’s shows and competitions, but not at the Westminster Kenel Club show until next year.

American hairless terriers are either bare-skinned or they carry short coats with the hairless gene. They are lively and inquisitive, and perfect for those with dog-hair allergies.

The sloughi (pronounced SLOO-ghee), also called the Arabian greyhound, was developed to hunt game as big as gazelles. They are known for their speed, endurance, grace and reserved demeanors.
