Social Media News: Mom Warns of ‘Duct Tape Challenge’

A mother is warning the nation of the perils of the “duct tape challenge.”

Duct Tape Challenge

Her 14-year-old son suffered a tragic accident that left him with a brain aneurysm and left him blind in one eye. Skylar Fish says he’s “lucky to be alive.”

The Renton, Washington boy tried out the YouTube duct tape challenge with his friends on Jan. 16, which consists of duct taping his legs and arms to his body while standing on both feet.

The last time Skylar tried it, he was taped to a pole to prevent him from falling. In this case, he lost his balance and crashed to the ground, unable to free his hands to break the fall.

The teenager smashed his head on a concrete and metal window frame, finding himself blind in one eye with his eye socket crushed and nerve damage.

The accident caused a brain aneurysm and required 48 staples to his eyes. Skylar can no longer see in one eye and he may not regain his vision there.

His mother is glad he’s still alive.
