Independence Day, also called the 4th of July, is a national holiday that’s been around since the Revolutionary War.
Independence Day take place on July 4th because that’s when the founding fathers of the United States officially announced the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The day is usually celebrated with fireworks, parades, games and barbecues.
According to History.com, Independence Day wasn’t recognized as a federal holiday in the U.S. until 1941. The vote for independence from Great Britain was made on July 2nd and Thomas Jefferson, who drafted the Declaration of Independence, believed that day would be celebrated by future generations.
