Tim Tebow has hit it out of the park in his first professional at-bat.
The former NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner has had a successful first step in his transition from being a world beater in the football stage to becoming an MLB star with the New York Mets.
29-year-old Tebow signed with the Mets over the summer with the hopes of becoming a two-sport athlete like Bo Jackson. In his first at-bat, he crushed a ball to left-center field out of the park.
The 255-pound athlete is currently in Florida’s instructional league, where he is likely the oldest and the best-known player around. He got plenty of support from his teammates who created a pathway for Tebow to run through.
The pitcher who conceded the homerun is Jon Kilichowski of the St. Louis Cardinals’ instructional league. The 22-year-old has something in common with Tebow–they both emerged from the Southeastern Conference out of the NCAA.
The former Denver Broncos quarterback received a signing bonus of $100,000 along with a place in the roster, which could eventually see him move up the ranks to the majors.
The New York Mets have been in a good place over the last couple of years, making the playoffs and NLCS last year, while this year they are in prime position to take one of the Wild Card spots in the National League.
