Leading the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) rumor mill today is news of a new iOS 10.1 beta for developers. Today, we’ll look at that and other Apple Rumors for Wednesday.
iOS 10.1 Beta: The third beta of iOS 10.1 is now available to developers, reports MacRumors. The new version of the iOS 10.1 beta is listed as build “14B67.” While the beta will mostly fix issues that have shown up in iOS 10, it will also have a new feature. The new feature coming with iOS 10.1 is Portrait mode. This feature is for owners of the iPhone 7 Plus as it uses both of the rear-facing cameras. It lets users blur different parts of pictures taken for a more professional look. The beta update can be downloaded over the air or via the Developer Center.
Fingerprint Sensor Patent: Apple has been granted a patent for a new fingerprint sensor, AppleInsider notes. The new patent is titled “Capacitive fingerprint sensor including an electrostatic lens.” It describes a system that could allow the company to place a fingerprint sensor underneath the display screen on a device. It’s possible that this technology could be used in the upcoming 2017 iPhone. Rumors also claim that next year’s device will do away with the Home button, which is where the current fingerprint sensor is located.
Sapphire Glass Test: A sapphire glass test has revealed that the Apple uses low-quality sapphire, reports BGR. The test, which was performed by JerryRigEverything, discovered that the sapphire glass used in the iPhone 7 camera scored a 6 on the Mohs hardness scale. This is right about the same as Corning Incorporated’s (NYSE:GLW) Gorilla Glass. However, it doesn’t match up to the 8 score that sapphire glass used in a Tissot watch earned. This is due to the sapphire glass used in the iPhone 7 containing impurities not present in the glass used on the Tissot watch. As a result, the iPhone 7 sapphire glass is easier to scratch.
