Equifax Inc. (NYSE:EFX) has been hit with a number of lawsuits that keeps growing due to the severity of the data breach that hit the company.

Equifax Breach

It’s now been a few weeks since the company’s data breach was announced, revealing the personal information of nearly 150 million Americans. This includes Social Security numbers, names, date of births and more.

Now, it has been unveiled that Equifax may not have had adequate security measures in place to stop a hack of such magnitude, leading a number of states to join in a class action lawsuit against the company.

The latest name to join the lawsuit is San Francisco, which was added yesterday to a list that includes the state of Massachusetts and will surely grow over the coming weeks.

The company is facing close scrutiny from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission, the House Financial Services Committee, the Senate Finance Committee, the office of New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, the New York Department of Financial Services, in addition to the lawsuit.

Three Equifax executives lost their jobs as a result of the breach, with CEO and Chairman of the Board, Richard Smith being the latest one to “retire,” only two weeks after two executives “retired” from the company as well.

EFX shares fell more than 1.1% on Thursday afternoon.
