Leading the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) rumor mill today is a patent concerning 3D Touch. Today, we’ll look at that and other Apple Rumors for Thursday.
3D Touch Patent: A new patent details how Apple may expand 3D Touch in the future, reports AppleInsider. The new patent talks about a system that would allow future devices to sense 3D Touch on the front or back of a device. This system means that users may be able to take advantage of additional 3D Touch gestures that could be specific to the rear of a device. The patent was published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office today and is titled “Detecting backside force in a touch-screen device.”
Apple TV Audio: Dolby Laboratories, Inc.’s (NYSE:DLB) Atmos isn’t supported on the new TV 4K, 9to5Mac notes. The exclusion of the surround-sound system is strange as the TV 4K does offer Dolby’s Vision 4K format for videos. It’s unknown why the option wasn’t included at launch, but the tech company says that a firmware update will add support for Atmos in the future.
3D Touch Gesture: Users have noticed that iOS 11 doesn’t support a certain 3D Touch gesture, reports MacRumors. The 3D Touch gesture that is missing in iOS 11 is for opening the App Switcher. Apple notes that it will be updating iOS 11 in the future to bring back this 3D Touch gesture. Craig Federighi, a software engineer at AAPL, says that the feature was dropped from first version of iOS 11 due to a “technical constraint.”
