Despite what you may have heard, Geary Danley is not the Las Vegas shooter.

The far-right went online yesterday in an attempt to uncover the person behind the deadly Las Vegas shooting late Sunday that killed at least 58 people and injured more than 500 others. This group of vigilantes went on Danley’s Facebook likes, family photographs and marital history to prove he was the killer.

Geary was married to Marilou Danley, which the police were looking for in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. However, the authorities later determined that Marilou had no involvement to the deadly act of madness.

Nevertheless, the far-right took this morsel of information and went with it, creating viral threads and tweeting about Geary Danley being the attacker. Part of the reason why it was so easy for this group to come to the conclusion that Geary was the killer is due to the fact that his social media habits suggest he is a liberal.

One anonymous user went on

4chan’s /pol/ board to post that Danley was a “REGISTERED DEMOCRAT!” The thread spread like wildfire along with a crowdsourced wiki page about Danley on Everipedia that claimed “Geary opened fired [sic] on the 34th floor of the Mandalay Bay toward a concert happening across the street.”

Actual police work was done at some point, and Stephen Paddock, 64, was identified as the gunman. Paddock was later found dead in a hotel room on the Strip with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Paddock’s motives are a mystery so far as there were no obvious religious affiliations his relatives knew him to have, thus it was not deemed a terror attack.
