Flappy Bird Headed Back to App Stores in August

Dong Nguyen has confirmed that Flappy Bird will be coming back to app stores in August.

flappy-birdNguyen claims to have made changes to the game that make it less addicting that its initial version. However, at the same time he also announced that the new version of Flappy Bird will also include multiplayer. It’s unknown how the new multiplayer will work, but it isn’t likely to help curb addiction to the game, Washington Post notes.

3% to 8% of gamers are reported to suffer from pathological video game addiction, which is an actual condition. Lists that look at features in addicting games, such as World of Warcraft and EverQuest, usually put multiplayer at the top, reports Washington Post.

During its first run in app stores, Flappy Bird was downloaded over 50 million times. After it was pulled, several clones of the game started appearing on the stores. Some of these games contained malware and Apple (AAPL) and Google

(GOOG) both started removing them from their stores.

Nguyen first announced that Flappy Bird would be returning to app stores in late March.
