Xbox gamers anxiously awaiting the release of the next installment in the popular Halo franchise will have to wait a lot longer.
Halo 5: Guardians won’t become available for Microsoft’s (MSFT) Xbox One console until fall 2015. Bonnie Ross, General Manager at Halo 5 developer 343 Industries — which was created by Microsoft to develop Halo games — posted a message on the Xbox blog explaining that preparing the game for the Xbox One was a “bigger effort than Halo 4.”
Ross noted that “making a Halo game that runs at 60 frames per second, on dedicated servers, with the scope, features, and scale we’ve been dreaming of for more than a decade, is non-trivial.” 343 Industries is working to create a “game that is built from the ground up for Xbox One,” Ross added.
While Halo 5 won’t come out until next year, Ross teased that a “giant leap” in the Halo “journey” would be revealed at this year’s E3 conference in June.
In addition to the Halo 5 video game, a TV series is in the works. However, just like the Halo 5 game, the Halo 5 TV series won’t launch until fall 2015, according to 343 Industries. Halo 4 debuted on the Xbox 360 in 2012.
