A Google (GOOG) “Buy Now” button may be in the works to help the company compete against Amazon (AMZN).
The Google Buy Now button would allow the company to keep potential customers on its webpages longer and give them a quick way of shopping online. Google wouldn’t be selling and shipping products through the button, but would complete transactions with merchants. It would act similar to Amazon’s “One-Click Ordering” option, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Besides the Google Buy Now button, the company is also working on a feature that would allow merchants to promote two-day shipping. The promotion would be specific to users that purchase through Google’s service, WSJ notes.
The possibility of a Google Buy Now button comes as other online services look into similar features. Twitter (TWTR) is one such service. The social media platform started testing a Buy Now button on its mobile app in September and users have reported seeing the button as far back as June.
