Chapel Hill Shooting 2015: 3 Muslim College Students Dead

The Chapel Hill Shooting appears to have been caused by a parking dispute between neighbors.

Chapel Hill ShootingThree Muslim students were allegedly killed by Craig Stephen Hicks over a parking space. From what has been gathered of the event, the dispute was long running. Hicks turned himself in after the shootings and is being held without bond, reports the Associated Press.

The three Muslim college students shot on Wednesday were Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, Yusor Mohammad and Deah Shaddy Barakat. Barakat and Mohammad were husband and wife and Abu-Salha was Mohammad’s sister. Police said they will investigate the Chapel Hill Shooting to determine if it was caused by hatred toward Muslims, the Associated Press notes.

“These were three bright young stars, not only in the Muslim community, but in America,” Wajahat Ali, writer and co-host of Al Jazeera America’s The Stream, told The New York Times. “This should not be seen as a tragedy and loss just for the Muslim community, it should be seen as a tragic loss for the American community, and the international community.”
