Pre-Order Frenzy: Just an hour after Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) began taking online orders for the iPhone 5 this morning, the first batch of the new smartphones sold out, the Washington Post notes. Orders placed through Apple’s web store now post a two week shipping estimate. Apple’s newest smartphone was unveiled by CEO Tim Cook at a media event on Wednesday. The super-quick sell-out suggests that demand for the newest iPhone is very strong and that Apple is on track to deliver the biggest product rollout in its history. Apple shares rose 2% in Friday afternoon trading. The iPhone 5 arrives in brick and mortar stores on September 21.
