‘Hunger Games’ Author Targets New Audience With Next Book

'Year of the Jungle' is more personal and for a younger audience

Suzanne Collins, author of the wildly popular Hunger Games books, has a new novel coming out in 2013.

The book’s publisher, Scholastic (NASDAQ:SCHL), announced the upcoming release Thursday. Titled Year of the Jungle, it will be available on Sept. 10, 2013, reports the Associated Press.

At 40 pages, Year of the Jungle will be significantly shorter than Collins’ last book in the Hunger Games trilogy, Mockingjay. Intended for a younger age group than her previous work, Year of the Jungle will be about Collin’s father, an officer in the U.S. Air Force, and his time in Vietnam.

A Scholastic press release says Year of the Jungle will focus on a girl named Suzy and how she deals with a father who is away at war. The story will detail how war can change both those who go and those who stay behind.

Collins’ three Hunger Games books are in the process of being made into four movies by Lions Gate Entertainment (NYSE:LGF). The first film, featuring Jennifer Lawrence in the lead role of Katniss Everdeen, grossed over $680 million worldwide. The second, Hunger Games: Catching Fire, is scheduled for a November 22, 2013, release.
