Holiday Frenzy: Consumers opted overwhelmingly to use Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) devices when shopping online over the Thanksgiving holiday. IBM (NYSE:IBM) estimated that Internet traffic from iPads alone comprised 10% of online retail shopping, AllThingsD noted. The iPhone was a close second, generating 8.7% of all holiday sales traffic. That compared to 5.5% of holiday sales traffic generated by all devices running Google‘s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android operating system. Sales made with iPads comprised 88.3% of all online shopping conducted with tablets. Consumers used Barnes & Noble‘s (NYSE:BKS) Nook to make 3.1% of sales, and Amazon‘s (NASDAQ:AMZN) Kindle for just 2.4% of sales.

Foot Traffic Battle: Apple also prevailed in the number of customers that visited its brink and mortar store at the Mall of America, compared to the new Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) store at the same mall, CNET noted. Piper Jaffray (NYSE:PJC) analyst Gene Munster stationed people outside both stores on Black Friday and counted the number of visitors. His team found that Microsoft’s store had 47% fewer visitors than the Apple Store.  Shoppers at the Apple Store purchased 17.2 items per hour, compared to 3.5 items per hour at the Microsoft store. Munster noted that his team observed the Apple Store selling 11 iPads every hour, while the Microsoft store didn’t sell even one Surface tablet during the observation period.

Online Outlet: Apple has launched an online store for refurbished products on eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY), 9to5Mac notes. The store launched a month ago, but did not feature any logo or information tying it to Apple. Inside sources say that the store — which has received a 99.7% positive rating from eBay users — is a test run by Apple. Officially, eBay will not say who is behind the online storefront. If the trial is successful, it could lead to a larger Apple presence on the online auction website. Products sold through the eBay store come with a full year-long Apple warranty, new batteries and have been repackaged with the appropriate manuals and cables.
