Sonic (SONC), the fast-food drive-in with roller-skating servers, is making plans to expand its franchise.

In a push to the northeast territory, Sonic announced Wednesday that there will be five new locations in Rochester, N.Y., by 2017.

Franchise group leader Fran DeSimone is also making plans to take Sonic into the Buffalo area as well.

“We are looking to purchase the Buffalo rights, but we haven’t done it yet,” Desimone told The Buffalo News“We’ve been hearing for years that local residents want a Sonic.”

The Northeast isn’t the only part of the country that is part of Sonic’s expansion plan.

“As we continue SONIC’s franchise development push across the country, we have opportunity to expand our footprint in the Los Angeles and San Diego markets,” Mike Gallagher, vice president of development and franchising for Sonic, told heraldonline.com.

The southern California expansion includes plans for 15 new Sonic locations.
