Dropped: When Apple (AAPL) unveils its new lower-cost iPhone next month, the device will feature a version of iOS 7 that lacks features found on other iOS devices, AppleInsider notes. The prediction comes from Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, who says the iPhone 5C won’t offer Apple’s Siri voice assistant. Apple added Siri to iOS 5 in 2011, bringing the service to the iPhone 4S, but never to older models, including the iPhone 4. Munster expects the iPhone 5C to be priced around $300 and to feature lower-grade internal components compared to the upcoming flagship iPhone 5S, a plastic casing and a 4-inch display. With the launch of the iPhone 5C, Munster thinks Apple may stop making the iPhone 4S. Other recent rumors have suggested that Apple might discontinue the current iPhone 5 after the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C debut. The new iPhones are expected to be revealed at a media event on September 10.

Grim Outlook: According to one tech industry leader, without Steve Jobs, Apple will slip into the same innovative slump that marked the period between his ouster in 1985 and rejoining the company in 1997, USA TODAY notes. That is the view of Oracle (ORCL) CEO Larry Ellison, a friend of the late Apple co-founder. In a recent interview, Ellison described Jobs as “brilliant. I mean, our Edison. He was our Picasso. He was an incredible inventor.” As to what will happen to the company now that he’s gone, Ellison replied “well, we already know.” When asked to clarify, Ellison pointed out that Apple had gone without Jobs’ leadership once before, with dismal results. “Now, we’re going to see Apple without Steve Jobs” again, Ellison noted.

Expanded: Apple is extending its trade-in program for unauthorized third-party chargers to customers in Europe, Japan and Australia, CNET notes. Customers get a hefty discount on Apple-approved chargers when they exchange a third party charger at an Apple Store. The program debuted in the U.S. and China first, but will be launch in France, Germany, Canada, Australia, Japan and the United Kingdom on August 16. Apple started the trade-in program after two reports of people electrocuted while using third party chargers surfaced in China last month.
