Sony Launches Stand-Alone PS Vita TV

The company's gaming console allows users to play Vita and PSP games

Sony (SNE) has announced its latest gaming venture in the PlayStation Vita TV, a microconsole where you can play games, stream videos and buy items from the PlayStation store.

VentureBeat reports that the console allows gamers to play Vita and PSP games on televisions with a regular PlayStation DualShock 3 controller. Sony’s new console is scheduled for a Nov. 14 release in Japan for about $100 and over 1,300 Vita games will be available on the launch date.

The gaming system is expected to eventually have the capacity to games from a PlayStation 4 console. However, the Vita does allow users to access media from the web including video streaming services like Hulu and content from the PlayStation Store.

Sony’s microconsole does not come with a controller but gamers can buy a bundle pack that includes the Vita, a DualShock 3 controller and an 8GB memory card for about $150.
