Sure, plenty of TV stations will host marathons of the standard Christmas movies, but when you want to spice things up, it’s never a bad idea to look through the best Netflix streaming movies. No need to waste your own time scrolling through movies on Netflix, though — we at InvestorPlace did the hard work for you.

We waded through the (admittedly small) selection to find the best Netflix streaming movies that had a holiday theme. And, no, Polar Express did not make the list, because the characters in that film are sitting at the rock bottom of the uncanny valley.

From a Christmas classic, to an overlooked gem, to a Christmas movie in disguise, here are the best Netflix streaming movies for your 2014 holidays.

Best Streaming Netflix Movies: The Nightmare Before Christmas

best-netflix-streaming-movies-nightmare-before-christmasThe Nightmare Before Christmas gets all of its attention during Halloween, but it’s every bit as much a Christmas movie — and thus one of the best streaming Netflix movies for the holidays.

Think about it: When Jack Skellington wanders into Christmas town, he’s overcome with exactly the same kind of wonder and awe that you’d expect from the most wonderful time of the year. Plus, this is one of the few movies on Netflix that uses stop-motion animation, which harkens back to classics like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

But more than anything else, it’s Jack’s struggle to find himself and to make up for his mistakes that make this a Christmas movie at heart. And it’s definitely one of best Netflix streaming movies, at any time of year.

Best Streaming Netflix Movies: Jingle All the Way

Best-Streaming-Netflix-Movies-jingle-All-the-WayHere’s the thing: Jingle All the Way isn’t exactly a good movie, at least not by conventional measures. But there are a limited number of Christmas movies on Netflix, and this one’s underrated.

Jingle All the Way stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as a dad trying to win back his son’s respect. And what better way to do that than buying him the most popular action figure out there? He sets out to buy a Turbo Man, runs into another dad (Sinbad), who’s trying to do the same thing, and hijinks ensue.

This film probably won’t top many lists of the best Netflix streaming movies, so if you’re looking for the next It’s a Wonderful Life, you should probably look elsewhere. But if you’re looking for a movie that’s so bad it’s good, with a little bit of consumerist culture commentary, this this is one of the best movies on Netflix for you.

Best Streaming Netflix Movies: Christmas Vacation

Best-Streaming-Netflix-Movies-Christmas-VacationIf you only watch one of these streaming movies on Netflix, it should be this one.

Christmas Vacation continues the story of the Griswold family, and how everything they try to do ends up going disastrously wrong. As comedy formulas go, it’s a solid one, and Chevy Chase can sell the slapstick as well as anyone.

This is one of the best Netflix streaming movies for the most wonderful time of the year because anyone can relate to the challenges of getting along with family members during the holidays … and this film has that in spades. It hits all the holiday highlights: competitive neighbors, malfunctioning lights, tree-cutting and kidnapping. It’s a solid comedy, and a Christmas classic.

Christmas Vacation is undoubtedly one of the best Netflix streaming movies.

As of this writing, Adam Benjamin did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
