The new F-150 will be shown at the Detroit auto show in January. The truck will be made largely of aluminum to cut down on weight and increase fuel efficiency. According to Mark Fields, who is likely to be Ford’s next CEO, the company plans to cut down the weight of its trucks by as much as 750 pounds. Ford currently has two factories that assemble F-150 trucks: one in Claycomo,Missouri and another near the company’s headquarters. Prototypes of the new trucks are already being built and the new F-150 trucks are expected to hit the market in the second half of next year, reports Bloomberg.

The new F-150 will come with a new 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine. Also, the use of aluminum in the trucks will allow the manufacturer to use smaller fuel tanks, brakes and powertrains, Bloomberg notes.

It’s also possible that the new F-150 could come equipped with a tool box in the tailgate. Early concept art of the new truck showed that as a feature, but its unknown if it will make it into the final design, reports Newsday.
