Sources tell the Wall Street Journal that Boeing is recruiting more than 300 contract workers at the plant in the short term. Last year, Boeing attempted to trim costs at the factory — which produces some fuselage components and handles the final assembly of some 787 jets — by releasing hundreds of contract workers.

In addition to the more than 300 new hires, Boeing could ultimately higher as many as 1,000 contract workers at the factory. Boeing has been moving to increase 787 production, but has encountered issues with components sent for final assembly. The company would not divulge details of its contract-worker hiring to the Journal, though it admitted that it is increasing the number of contractors hired at the plant.

Problems with the Dreamliner’s lithium-ion batteries generated considerably negative Boeing news last year.

A Boeing spokesperson conceded that their had been some issues at the plant, but said the plant would meet its production targets.

On the Boeing news, BA stock sank more than 1% in Thursday morning trading. Recent positive Boeing News has prompted BA stock to surge over the last few months.
