More broadly, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.7%, the Nasdaq increased 1.0% and the S&P 500 climbed 0.7%.

Some of the biggest gainers among utilities stocks include:

• Cpfl Energia S.A. (CPL): CPL stock is up 4.4% today.

• Comp En De Mn Cemig Ads (CIG): CIG stock is up 3.9%, marking the 10th consecutive day the stock has increased.

• Cia De Saneamento Basico Do Estado (SBS): SBS stock is up 3.5% today.

• Centrais Elc Braz Pfb B Elbras (EBR): EBR stock is up 3.9% today and up 32.4% in the last month.

• Edison International (EIX): EIX stock is up 2.1% to a new 52-week high of $55.00.

• El Paso Pipeline Partners LP (EPB): EPB stock is up 2.1%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has increased.

• Atlas Energy Llc (ATLS): ATLS stock is up 1.3% today.

• Cheniere Energy (LNG): LNG stock is up 1.6% today.

• American States Water Company (AWR): AWR stock is up 1.5% today.

• Companhia Paranaense De Energia (ELP): ELP stock is up 1.5% today.

• Exterran Partners L.P. (EXLP): EXLP stock is down 5.4% today.

• Pacific Gas & Electric Co. (PCG): PCG stock is down 3.8%, marking the fourth consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Huaneng Power Intl (HNP): HNP stock is down 2.1% today.

• Korea Electric Power Corp (KEP): KEP stock is down 1.0% today.

• Pinnacle West Capital Corp (PNW): PNW stock is down 0.8% today.

• Otter Tail Corp (OTTR): OTTR stock is down 0.5% today.

• Sempra Energy (SRE): SRE stock is down 0.5% today.

• Transalta Corp (TAC): TAC stock is down 0.4% today.

• Crestwood Midstream Partners LP (CMLP): CMLP stock is down 0.2% today.

• Nextera Energy (NEE): NEE stock is down 0.2% today.
