BA has been migrating thousands of jobs to locations outside Washington for some time. The latest move will see 1,000 additional engineers who supply technical support to BA jet operators sent to Southern California. The transfers are expected to occur by the end of 2015, the Seattle Times notes.

Included in the move is the round-the-clock operations center, which provides immediate assistance for problems with any BA jet.

A BA executive said that moving the engineering support team to California would allow Boeing to access the Golden State’s large aviation-experienced employment pool, while allowing BA to “declutter” operations in the Puget Sound area. Some BA workers say the company is attempting to shed older, better-paid workers in Washington for younger, cheaper workers in other states.

With the latest move, Boeing will have moved more than 4,300 jobs out of the Puget Sound area.

BA shares fell modestly in Friday morning trading. BA stock has gained almost 40% over the past 12 months.
