More broadly, the Dow Jones Industrial Average pushed 0.8% higher, the Nasdaq rose 0.8% and the S&P 500 was up 0.8%.

- Steel Dynamics (STLD): STLD stock is up 3.6% today.
- Green Plains Renewable Energy (GPRE): GPRE stock is up 2.2% today.
- Reliance Steel & Aluminum Company (RS): RS stock is up 2.2% today.
- W.R. Grace & Company (GRA): GRA stock is up 2.2% today.
- Century Aluminum Company (CENX): CENX stock is up 2.2% today and up 20.7% in the last month.
- Kaman Corp (KAMN): KAMN stock is up 2.1% today.
- Calgon Carbon Corp (CCC): CCC stock is up 2.0% today.
- Worthington Industries (WOR): WOR stock is up 2.0% today.
- Chemtura Corp (CHMT): CHMT stock is up 1.9% today.
- Cf Industries Holdings (CF): CF stock is up 1.8%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has increased.
Some of the biggest losers among basic materials stocks include:
- Mrc Global Inc (MRC): MRC stock is down 0.5% today.
- Trex Company (TREX): TREX stock is down 0.3% today.
- Fibria Celulose S.A. (FBR): FBR stock is down 0.3% today.
- Leucadia National Corp (LUK): LUK stock is down 0.2% today on 2 times normal volume.
