More broadly, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 0.2%, the Nasdaq was up 0.1% and the S&P 500 pushed 0.2% higher.

Some of the biggest gainers among financial stocks include:

• Governor and Company of The Bank of Ireland (IRE): IRE stock is up 3.8% today.

• Assured Guaranty Ltd (AGO): AGO stock is up 3.1% today.

• Shinhan Financial Group Co Ltd (SHG): SHG stock is up 2.5% today.

• Icici Bank Limited (IBN): IBN stock is up 2.3% today.

• MBIA Inc (MBI): MBI stock is up 2.2% today.

• Wellpoint Health Networks Inc (WLP): WLP stock is up 2.2% today.

• Credit Suisse Group (CS): CS stock is up 1.7%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has increased.

• Banco Bradesco Sa (BBD): BBD stock is up 1.4% today.

• Hdfc Bank Limited (HDB): HDB stock is up 1.5% today.

• Radian Group Inc (RDN): RDN stock is up 1.5% today.

Some of the biggest losers among financial stocks include:

• Aegon Nv (AEG): AEG stock is down 2.5% today.

• National Bank of Greece Sa (NBG): NBG stock is down 1.8% today.

• Seventy Seven Energy Inc. (SSE): SSE stock is down 1.7% today.

• Beneficial Mutual Bancorp (BNCL): BNCL stock is down 1.0% today.

• Kearny Financial (KRNY): KRNY stock is down 1.1% today.

• Bbva Banco Frances S.A. (BFR): BFR stock is down 1.2% today.

• Chimera Investment Corp (CIM): CIM stock is down 0.9% today.

• China Life Insurance Company Limited (LFC): LFC stock is down 0.9% today.

• Grupo Financiero Galicia S.A. (GGAL): GGAL stock is down 0.8%, marking the fifth consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Ocwen Financial Corp (OCN): OCN stock is down 0.6% today and down 28.0% in the last month.
