5 Best Sectors to Watch This Week

The commercial banking, aerospace and defense, life science, biotechnology and auto parts sectors look strong this week, according to Portfolio Grader.

The commercial banking sector’s track record is proving one of the best with 100% of its stocks (5 out of 5) rating a “buy”. With a grade of B, StellarOne Corporation (STEL) and Citizens Republic Bancorp (CRBC) are buoying the sector. Pacific Capital Bancorp (PCBC) also ranks a solid A.

Aerospace and defense is thriving this week with 74% of stocks in the sector (31 out of 42) currently rating a “buy”. With overall grades of A, Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. (HII), Alliant Techsystem (ATK) and TASER International, Inc. (TASR) are buoying the sector. Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. beats the other stocks in its sector, with a 231.8% increase from a year ago.

With 71% of the sector’s stocks (17 out of 24) rating a “buy,” the life science sector is one of the strongest. Out of the life science stocks, Wuxi PharmaTech (Cayman) Inc. Sponsored ADR (WX), Covance (CVD) and Illumina, Inc. (ILMN) are out front with A’s. Wuxi PharmaTech (Cayman) Inc. Sponsored ADR is the top stock in its sector, with a 231.4% increase from 12 months ago.

Biotechnology stands out with 70% of the sector’s stocks (64 out of 92) rating a “buy”. Enanta Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ENTA), Gentium S.p.A. Sponsored ADR (GENT) and Repligen Corporation (RGEN) are all currently earning A’s. Repligen Corporation is performing the best overall in the sector, with a 469.4% increase from 12 months ago.

The auto parts sector is thriving on Portfolio Grader this week, with 68% of its stocks (17 out of 25) currently rating a “buy”. Magna International (MGA), Dorman Products, Inc. (DORM) and Cooper-Standard Holdings Inc. (CPS) are lifting the sector overall, each earning a high grade of A. The best performer in this sector is Magna International, which saw its price rise 253.3% in the last 12 months.
