On Wednesday afternoon, Apple began to push the latest update to the world, and there’s a lot to like about it when compared to the previous version, including the ability to add widgets.

Despite the fact that early numbers are good, Chitika Insights has noted that adoption of iOS 8 has not been up to speed when compared to iOS 7 and iOS 6.

Share of North American iOS 8 web traffic went from 0% upon launch on Sept. 17 (obviously) to 7.3% by the next day. While that sounds impressive on the surface, it is nothing to write home about when you compare it to previous versions. iOS 6 adoption stood at 14.8% one day after launch with iOS 7 reaching 18.2% within 24 hours.

There could be a very good reason for this: iOS 7 was much different than its predecessor, meaning more people were excited about making the change.

While there is a lot to get excited about regarding iOS 8, it’s not a transformative update the same way iOS 7 was, which tends to lower the sense of urgency to adopt.

So for now, while adoption isn’t nearly what we saw with iOS 6 and 7, there’s not much to worry about concerning iOS 8.

As of this writing, Chris Bibey did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
