BlackBerry (BBRY) Talks Future of Enterprise Mobility

Despite the fact that BlackBerry (BBRY) has lost most of its global smartphone market share, many still turn to the company for its enterprise solutions.

blackberry-BBYThere are many reasons why BlackBerry continues to receive a lot of attention from the enterprise. In addition to new devices, the company continues to prove it’s an enterprise security leader.

In a recent blog post, BlackBerry Enterprise Mobility Strategist Joe McGarvey outlined “10 Must-Have Capabilities of a Next-Generation EMM Solution.”

BBRY is focusing a lot of its resources on shining in these 10 areas because it realizes the importance of remaining strong in the enterprise mobility space — its bread and butter for quite some time — amid its weakening allure among more traditional retail buyers.

No. 1 on the List

McGarvey might have touched on 10 must-have capabilities, but there was a reason he put “self-service” at the top of the list. He noted the following:

“An EMM platform that provides easy-to-use and easy-to-navigate self-management and support capabilities will let end users take charge of numerous mobile management chores. In addition to reducing the burden on IT staffs, self-service appeals to end users who are still anxious about giving away the oversight of their personal devices to the IT staff.”

Most people want to be able to handle every aspect of their device on their own. Many workers simply don’t like the idea of handing over their personal smartphone (or other device) to a member of the IT staff.

This is an area where BBRY continues to shine, thanks in large part to its cloud based enterprise mobility solutions.

Just the same as anything else, you can expect enterprise mobility to evolve in the years to come. If BlackBerry can remain a go-to company in this space, it should be able to weather its dwindling use among regular consumers.

Is a big turnaround in the cards? It’s hard to say. But enterprise is what will keep BlackBerry from falling into the depths.

As of this writing, Chris Bibey did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
