More broadly, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.7%, the Nasdaq declined 0.8% and the S&P 500 fell 0.7%.

Some of the biggest gainers among basic materials stocks include:

• Valhi Inc (VHI): VHI stock is up 1.3% today.

• Barrick Gold Corp (ABX): ABX stock is up 0.3% today.

• Curtiss-Wright Corp (CW): CW stock is up 0.5% today.

• Terra Nitrogen Company L.P. (TNH): TNH stock is up 0.3%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has increased.

• Westlake Chemical Corp (WLK): WLK stock is up 0.2% today.

• Berry Plastics Group Inc (BERY): BERY stock is up 0.1% today.

Some of the biggest losers among basic materials stocks include:

• H. B. Fuller Company (FUL): FUL stock is down 13.0% today.

• Worthington Industries (WOR): WOR stock is down 5.4% today.

• Cliffs Natural Resources Inc (CLF): CLF stock is down 3.8%, marking the seventh consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Century Aluminum Company (CENX): CENX stock is down 3.5% today.

• AK Steel Holding Corp (AKS): AKS stock is down 3.6% today and down 24.8% in the last month.

• Stillwater Mining Company (SWC): SWC stock is down 3.5% today.

• Anglogold Ashanti Ltd (AU): AU stock is down 3.4% today and down 26.8% in the last month.

• Allegheny Technologies Inc (ATI): ATI stock is down 3.2%, marking the fourth consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Gold Fields Ltd (GFI): GFI stock is down 3.1% today.

• Teck Resources Ltd (TCK): TCK stock is down 2.8% today.
