Now that summer has come and gone, investors are hoping for more of the same from the social media giant during the fall and winter months. And as long as the power of social media continues to exert its dominance, there is a good chance of this happening.

The Numbers Say it All

According to a study published by Battenhall, only “10 companies in the FTSE 100 do not have a Twitter account at all, this is down from 12 in 2013.”

When you dig down deeper, there is an even more important stat: in whole, the FTSE 100 companies sent out nearly 1.5 million tweets over the last year.

This study proves that companies from all over, not just in the United States, have come to realize the power of TWTR, and are racing to take advantage of that power.

Twitter and Politics

The University of Sydney recently surveyed 3,600 people between the age of 16 and 29, residing in Australia, the U.K., and the United States.

The study found that 90% of these people used Facebook (FB) with 50% using Twitter. But that’s not the interesting part. The study took a closer look at how social media impacts the way people get involved with politics.

Media Bistro published this quote from the study’s lead researcher:

“We have found overall that increasing use of social media leads to more political participation by young people.”

Even though FB appears to be more popular among this age group when it comes to where they learn about major events and news, Twitter is doing its part as well.

The younger generation is the one that will make or break TWTR, FB and other social networking sites in the future. For this reason, investors love to hear about studies like these, proving that this group continues to focus its attention in this area of the online world.

As of this writing, Chris Bibey did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
