Craig Spencer, a New York City Doctor, has been diagnosed with Ebola.

CDC_Battling_Ebola_By_Training_Medical_Volunteers.jpgSpencer was working with the humanitarian group Doctors Without Borders in West Africa. He worked with Ebola patients before coming back to the states and returned on Oct. 17. He wasn’t diagnosed with the virus until Thursday. Spencer was quarantined after the diagnoses, reports Reuters.

During his time in New York, Spencer traveled in three subway stations and took a taxi. He also went to a bowling alley, which closed down for a day as a precaution. Spencer was monitoring his own health and decided to go to a hospital when he had a fever of 100.3. It’s unlikely that anyone else was infected during the doctor’s travels, Reuters notes.

Potential cases of Ebola in NYC are closely monitored. Those coming to the city from West Africa have to submit their information to authorities. They must also self-monitor their health for the next 21 days and regularly report their temperatures. If they fail to do this, authorities will track them down, reports New York Daily News.
