The Steve Jobs memorial statue was located in St. Petersburg and was removed on Friday, which was one day after Cook’s announcement. The reason for the statue’s removal was to not violate the country’s law banning gay propaganda. It was built in 2013 by a group of companies called ZEFS and was located outside of a college, reports Reuters.

“After Apple CEO Tim Cook publicly called for sodomy, the monument was taken down to abide to the Russian federal law protecting children from information promoting denial of traditional family values,” ZEFS told Reuters.

According to a spokesman for the college where the Steve Jobs statue was located, the removal of the statue was planned prior to Cook announcing that he is gay. This person claims that the statue was being removed as part of a renovation, reports ABC News.
