In its announcement, Walmart said that Mac Naughton was leaving the company to follow new opportunities. His departure comes right before Black Friday. He held the position of chief merchandising officer for three years. His journey with the retailer started in 2009 when he joined the company as its chief merchandising officer for Canada, reports Reuters.

As it stands now, Walmart doesn’t have a new chief merchandising officer. Instead, Greg Foran, who is head of the company’s U.S. operations, will be directly receiving reports from merchandising executives, Reuters notes.

Despite not having a chief merchandising officer for the holiday season, Walmart says that it isn’t worried. A spokeswoman said that the company is confident in the capability of operators and merchants to properly handle Black Friday and holiday plans in 2014, reports The Wall Street Journal.
