A Google (GOOG) “Buy Now” button may be in the works to help the company compete against Amazon (AMZN).

google-buy-now-button-goog-amznThe Google Buy Now button would allow the company to keep potential customers on its webpages longer and give them a quick way of shopping online. Google wouldn’t be selling and shipping products through the button, but would complete transactions with merchants. It would act similar to Amazon’s “One-Click Ordering” option, reports The Wall Street Journal.

Besides the Google Buy Now button, the company is also working on a feature that would allow merchants to promote two-day shipping. The promotion would be specific to users that purchase through Google’s service, WSJ notes.

The possibility of a Google Buy Now button comes as other online services look into similar features. Twitter (TWTR) is one such service. The social media platform started testing a Buy Now button on its mobile app in September and users have reported seeing the button as far back as June.
