More broadly, the Dow Jones Industrial Average remained flat, the Nasdaq stayed level and the S&P 500 was steady.

Some of the biggest gainers among utilities stocks include:

• Uil Holdings Corp (UIL): UIL stock is up 1.5% today.

• Huaneng Power Intl (HNP): HNP stock is up 1.3% today.

• TCP Pipelines (TCP): TCP stock is up 0.4% today.

• Abengoa Yield Plc (ABY): ABY stock is up 0.8% today.

• One Gas Inc. (OGS): OGS stock is up 0.4%, marking the fourth consecutive day the stock has increased.

• Hawaiian Electric Industries (HE): HE stock is up 0.6% today.

• Southwest Gas Corp (SWX): SWX stock is up 0.5% today.

• Spectra Energy Corp (SE): SE stock is up 0.4% today.

• American States Water Company (AWR): AWR stock is up 0.3% today.

Some of the biggest losers among utilities stocks include:

• Centrais Elc Braz Pfb B Elbras (EBR): EBR stock is down 4.3% today.

• Boardwalk Pipeline Partners L.P. (BWP): BWP stock is down 2.0% today.

• Korea Electric Power Corp (KEP): KEP stock is down 2.3% today.

• Companhia Paranaense De Energia (ELP): ELP stock is down 1.8% today.

• Westar Energy (WR): WR stock is down 1.4% today.

• Enlink Midstream Partners LP (ENLK): ENLK stock is down 1.2% today.

• Entergy Corp (ETR): ETR stock is down 1.2%, marking the fourth consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Cia De Saneamento Basico Do Estado (SBS): SBS stock is down 1.1% today.

• PPL Corp (PPL): PPL stock is down 1.3% today.

• Targa Resources (TRGP): TRGP stock is down 0.8% today.
