Detroit Auto Show 2015: 5 Hot Cars Making Headlines

The 2015 Detroit Auto Show kicked off yesterday and there are several hot cars catching the public’s attention.

The North American International Auto Show is a two-week event that started January 12 this year. The first two days serve as a preview available to the press only.

The automotive industry’s preview takes place on Jan. 14-15 followed by a black-tie gala Friday. Tickets are $400 a pop and all proceeds go to children’s charities.

The auto show will be open to the public the following week, from January 17 until it concludes on January 24.

Here are five of the most talked about cars over the last two days.

Detroit Auto Show 2015: Ford GT

Ford GTThe new Ford (F) GT is all the rage at this year’s show.

The carbon fiber vehicle has a lightweight build that is both sleek and simple–two seats, a deployable rear spoiler and scoops in the hood and sides designed for advanced aerodynamics.

The Ford GT comes with a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine capable of producing 600 horsepower. The car’s price has yet to be announced but it is expected to be in the range of other supercars–around $200,000.

Ford is releasing 12 new performance vehicles by 2020, including the GT.

F stock is down 0.1% Tuesday.

Detroit Auto Show 2015: Volkswagen Cross Coupe GTE Concept

Detroit Auto Show 2015Volkswagen is making strides with its third concept.

The Cross Coupe GTE is a seven-passenger midsize SUV with a wide, aluminum-framed air inlet. The vehicle comes with four doors and a slated roofline.

276 horsepower is contained in a 3.6-liter V6 engine and two electric motors capable of powering the GTE in electric mode for up to 20 hours. The car can combine its electric and gas capabilities to produce a total of 355 horsepower.

The German automaker plans on producing it in the US at the end of 2016.

Tata Motors (TTM) introduced the Range Rover HSE Td6 at the Detroit Auto Show yesterday.

The company is launching a Land Rover that operates on diesel for the first time. The HSE has a 3.0-liter Td6 turbocharged V6 engine that can churn out 254 horsepower.

The Range Rover has improved towing capability and it will offer 25 mpg in city and highway driving. This marks a 32% improvement over the supercharged V6 gas engine.

Tata Motors will eventually include diesel versions of most Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles.

TTM stock is up 2%.

Detroit Auto Show 2015: Mercedes GLE450 AMG Sport Coupe / AMG GLE63 Coupe

Detroit Auto Show 2015Mercedes-Benz previewed a four-door, crossover coupe version of its midsize E-Class sedan.

The vehicle is marked by a traditional coupe roofline with a wide stance. The GLE 450 AMG 4Matic Coupe carries a nine-speed transmission, all-wheel drive and a V6 engine that produces 362 horsepower.

The Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S Coupe is a beautiful piece of machinery that comes with a 5.5-liter V8 engine that produces 577 horsepower. It can reach 0 to 60 mpg in 4.2 seconds.

Both versions will be released in the U.S. in August.

Detroit Auto Show 2015: Infiniti Q60 Concept

Detroit Auto Show 2015Nissan impressed the press yesterday with its Infiniti Q60 coupe concept.

The car is an improvement on the current Q60 with sharper features and a more aggressive grille. It also contains more precise styling and narrowed highlights.

The Infiniti Q60 concept comes equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 engine.

The vehicle is slated for a 2016 release.
