The network is partnering up with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) as part of the program. The feature is designed to alert people of kids who are kidnapped or go missing near their area.

Facebook will include plenty of information about the children including pictures and it will send Amber Alerts to notify nearby residents. “The best chance of finding a child comes when the right information gets to the people at the right time,” said Emily Vacher, Trust and Safety Manager for Facebook Security.

Users can share these social media Amber Alerts to their friends with a ‘Share’ button. You can also learn more about a particular case by clicking the ‘Learn More’ button on that post.

Amber Alerts was founded in 1996 following the kidnapping and murder of 9-year-old Texas native Amber Hagerman.

FB stock is down 0.9% Tuesday afternoon.
