Google (GOOG, GOOGL) is testing its modular smart phone today.

The second Project Ara developer’s conference is being held in Mountain View and it’s designed to help Google figure out how to modify the hardware based on consumer needs.

“We have to carefully curate and manage the way that choice is presented so as not to overwhelm the consumer,” said Project Ara head Paul Eremenko.

Google is launching a second pilot for its modular smart phone in the second half of 2015, which will be held in Puerto Rico.

GOOG stock is up 0.95% Wednesday afternoon. GOOGL stock is up 0.82%.
